About Sam Styron

Sam is a professional civil engineer and a professional agricultural aviation pilot (crop duster).

Upon completion of a 4 year tour with the United States Air Force Sam attended and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Engineering in 1985 with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering. Styron worked for multi-disciplined firms in Columbia and Kansas City. Most of that time was spent surveying, designing, preparing studies and reports, and construction observation on water and waste water projects.

In ‘92 Sam began to pursue an alternate career in the professional aerial application (aka, crop dusting) industry. While trying to get the flying career off the ground Sam discovered an opportunity in Cass County to provide engineering services alongside the crop dusting businesss. Since 1994, he has been president and principal engineer of Samuel J. Styron Consulting Engineers, Inc. and is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the firm as well as performing project management, engineering design, client contact and business development. The focus of engineering at SJS has been site development and municipal infrastructure improvements including water and sewer systems, waste water treatment and storm water control and conveyance design.

Sam is also the owner and operator of 1Lowflyer, Inc., a “crop care by air” provider. Sam has more than 2,500 hours of pilot time spraying, fertilizing and seeding crops.  Styron Aerial Application or 1Lowflyer, Inc. has been operating since 1993 providing services in Missouri, Kansas and Iowa.

Sam lives outside Harrisonville, Missouri with his wife (of 21+ years) and three children.  Wife Pattie is a full time mother. She has a bachelors degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, College of Health Related Professions, as a Medical Technologist.  Pattie worked at Moberly Regional Hospital and Clinical Reference Laboratory prior to settling into fulltime motherhood.
